Psychedlic-folk band Mary Jane was formed in Southampton, November 1993, and
since then the band has gone through many line up changes, but has always
featured founder members Paul Alan Taylor (acoustic, electric & 12 string
guitars), and Jo Quinn (vocals, flutes, acoustic guitar),.
Paul chose the name of the band from a song by Nick Drake. Mary Jane were
signed The German September Gurls label in the spring of 1995.
They are now a five-piece electric band, growing more proficient than ever
at their live performances, often featuring twin fiddles & vocals from Jo &
Gillie Leach, who was previously playing predominantly Irish music after
coming from a classical background.
The last couple of years have been Mary Jane's busiest ever in terms of
live performances, with the welcome consequent rise in profile. This led to
links with other similar bands, such as The Morrigan, Bluehorses, Arlen &
Beltaine, and the consequent exposure to their fans through joint gigs & appearances.
