JUICY LUCY

Juicy Lucy were one of the most respected outfits to come howlin' and wailin' out of the Sixties' blues boom, featuring some of the finest musicians of the day.. Their debut album 'Juicy Lucy' released in 1969 became famous for its notorious gatefold album sleeve, depicting a plump, naked lady covered in fruit - once seen, never forgotten.

The roots of Juicy Lucy lay way back in The Misunderstood, a band formed in 1966 and championed by John Peel, before they evolved into Juicy Lucy, with Ray Owen on vocals, who the front man in the present line-up. Juicy Lucy scored chart hits in 1970 with 'Pretty Woman' and Bo Diddley's 'Who Do You Love'. They went on to record several more albums for Vertigo, Polydor and Island, including 'Lie Back And Enjoy It', 'Pieces' and 'Get A Whiff Of This'.

Amongst the top musicians that passed through this band have been guitar legends Micky Moody and Bernie Marsden, Paul Williams (well known for his work with Zoot Money and Jon Hiseman), slide guitar maestro Glen Campbell, and also Ron Berg and Andy Pyle from Blodwyn Pig (and later Savoy Brown), and Frankie Miller. Their albums feature a veritable "who's who" of guest musicians - Albert Lee and Chas Hodges on backing vocals, and on keyboards both Ian McLagan from The Small Faces and Mick 'Wynder K. Frogg' Weaver have been featured.
