After 33 years, Britain's award winning blues band THE PRODUCERS are on
their farewell tour, and alhogh this is an occasion of great sadness, we
are honoured to have the one last time at The Bullfrog Blues Club in
Southsea on THURSDAY 3rd AUGUST.
THE PRODUCERS have played at or headlined most of the major blues festivals
in the UK, and also Templebar's Guinness Blues Festival in Dublin, Tauranga
Jazz and Blues Festival in New Zealand, the Atlanta Blues Festival in the
USA and Freeport Blues Festival in the Bahamas. THE PRODUCERS also
supported Peter Green on his comeback UK tour (featuring in the BBC's
documentary of the tour), opened for Jools Holland in front of 4000 fans at
two Larmer Tree Festivals and Procul Harum in front of 3000 people at
Lulworth Castle.
Since their formation in 1990 they have had nine varying members on drums,
guitars, harmonica and keyboards although band founders guitarist Harry
Skinner and bassist Dave Saunders have always featured. THE PRODUCERS have
released nine albums, and
the many guests appearing with them includie Martin Barre (Jethro Tull, Dave
Kelly (The Blues Band) Tony "T.S" McPhee (The Groundhogs), Andy Fairweather
Low and the brass section of the Ray Charles Orchestra and the Raelets.
Concerned with feel and attitude rather than slavishly copying 'hand me
down' American music, The Producers have stamped with their own
characteristic identity on the blues..
"Makes no difference which way you look at it - these guys are loaded with
talent!" ('Blues in the South')
"This was the gig that was not worth missing for anything, the venue was
buzzing a good 40 minutess before The Producers were due to play" ('Folk
Roots')
"These musicians clearly know how to entertain" ('Blueprint')
"Harry Skinner will go down in British blues as one of the best vocalists
and guitar pickers of this era" ('The Word')
"If you want to talk at the bar don't bother - but if you want to listen to
some of the best blues played just as it should be played make every effort
to see these guys" ('Blues South
West review')
"The Theatre was stunned into silence by the British blues band The
Producers; pity the Americans who had to follow that performance" ('The
Irish Times')
