The Bullfrog Blues Club proudly present ZOE SCHWARZ BLUE COMMOTION on Thursday February 6th at The Dockyard Club, Onslow Road, Southsea , PO5 2NH. When a band has been nominated in two categories of the UK Blues Awards 2018 (female blues vocalist of the year and blues album of the year) and Paul Jones of BBC Radio 2 comments "terrific musicians, all four of them", you can expect something special. Zoe Schwarz Blue Commotion do not disappoint, they live up to and exceed expectations. Vocalist Zoe Schwarz was brought up on classical music but when an uncle gave her a Billie Holiday tape it changed her world. She has a massive vocal range and her dynamic and commanding vocal delivery is both eclectic and suave at the same time - one part Janis Joplin, one part Billie Holiday, and one Nina Simone Drummer Paul Robinson actually worked with Nina Simone for 19 years while keyboard player Pete Whittaker toured with The Wonder Stuff, Van Morrison, The Proclaimers, Wonder Stuff and Paul McCartney to name but a few. The band's superb guitarist Rob Koral has played on well over 30 albums, with a wide range of musicians. . Swirling Hammond organ and some great guitar work combined with some superb arrangements give a jazz edge to many of the songs, with the result that the band has a truly distinctive sound. The band perform not only terrific self-penned songs but stunning interpretations of classics like Nina Simone's 'Blues For Mama' and Screaming Jay Hawkins' 'I Put A Spell On You'. Since 2012 Zoe Schwarz Blue Commotion have recorded five studio albums and two live CDs, and their 8th album "Chameleon" is about to be released in April. This is a band of exceptional quality -you really shouldn't miss the opportunity to see them!
