Stomping Dave Band - Bullfrog Blues Club - Thursday 7th November

BULLFROG BLUES CLUB, 7th NOVEMBER

First the bad news - I'm sorry to tell you that The Big Wolf Band will NOT
be able to appear at The Bullfrog's November gig. Yesterday I received the
news that  their guitarist Jon - the "Big Wolf" himself -  has been
diagnosed with a degenerative muscle disease and told he needs complete
rest and must NOT play the guitar. As a result of this the band had to pull
out of the gig at The Bullfrog and have been forced to cancel  all their
gigs for the rest of the year and in to next year. I'm sure you'll all join
me in wishing Jon a speedy recovery, and once they're back in action I'll
certainly be booking them again.

And now the GOOD news! I contacted an old Bullfrog favourite, the
incomparable Stompin' Dave Allen, and as a result he's pulled together a
stompingly great blues band to do the gig' so on Thursday 7th November
we'll now be presenting STOMPIN' DAVE'S BAND.

Although he needs no introduction to many of our regulars, suffice to say
Dave is a vocalist, multi instrumentalist (and tap dancer!) who's been
described by Maverick Magazine as "one of the world's greatest performers"
and by The Daily Telegraph as "a master...a formidable musician and a true
original." Dave has performed at many  festivals including numerous
appearances at  Glastonbury Festival, Bestival  and (closer to home)
Southsea Folk & Roots Festival. Dave has appeared at both The Great Dorset
Steam Fair and the Boogaloo Blues Weekend on Isle Of Wight for over ten
years in succession. A former member of former UK blues band of the year
The Producers,  Dave was nominated for a British Blues Award in the
acoustic act category 2014.

"Let's face it, the man is a downright genius"
 "Blues In Britain" magazine'.

On drums is John Butters of Norfolk based blues band Blues Situation, who
have  appeared at venues, festivals and Boogaloo Blues Weekends all over
the U.K, and have appeared on  BBC  radio many times.
John was previously the drummer for the seminal 1980s/90s blues band Mean
Red Spiders,  led by guitarist Toni Vines, who played with Alexis Korner,
Paul Rodgers, Andy Fraser, Louisiana Red, Lowell Fulsom, Jimmy Rogers, Paul
Martinez (Robert Plant Band), Pick Withers (Dire Straits) and Mick Avory
(Kinks). The Mean Red Spiders played on many TV shows and once had "record
of the week on (O.G.W.T.) "Whispering" Bob Harris' BBC Radio 1 Show. John
later joined Groove Doctors, and then  Blues Situation, where in 2012 he
was once again joined by Toni Vines

Dave's old stomping partner Professor Oz will be on electric bass. From 1997
until 2006 this zany  duo developed a cult following for their unique brand
of music, featuring  jaw dropping showmanship and instrumental wizardry.
They appeared on BBC television on several occasions and made a number of
appearances at Glastonbury Festival.

And Dave's special guest? Our very own blues guitar hero Andy Broad!!!

If you're a Bullfrog regular, you'll know Andy is Pompey's own "King Of The
Blues". In 1985 Andy was a member of Duck Soup, who supported several acts,
including Wilko Johnson and Steve Marriot. In 1987 Andy put together Burnt
Ice - they're still playing today - Portsmouth's longest running blues
band. Andy , who is also an extraordinary acoustic solo player/singer,
turned  professional in 1989, and in  1994 Andy  became lead guitarist for
The Busted Fender Blues Band, who  played many top level supports,
including Canned Heat, The Big Town Play Boys, Otis Grand, Kent Duchaine,
Ruthless Blues and many others. However, the band  split in 1997 so  Andy
formed The Rhythm Kings, who later became Westside Blues Band, who, like
Burnt Ice, are still gigging!

Fresh from a recent solo tour of Ireland where Andy played no less than
three nights in succession receiving standing ovations at a Festival in
Kilkee, County Clare, he's also toured extensively in France and all over
the U.K.
