Ready for a unique and talented take on a wide range of musical traditions? Well you better come down to the Bullfrog Blues Club in Southsea this Thursday, 5th July and see a great double header - Claude Bourbon AND Short Stuff! Claude Bourbon is known throughout Europe and America for his breathtaking acoustic fusion of blues, jazz, folk, classical and Spanish guitar . A true virtuoso, he plays Delta blues, Spanish, Middle Eastern stylings and more, taking them into uncharted territories. Claude's influences include Paco De Lucia, Deep Purple's Richie Blackmore; Joaquin Rodrigo; JJ Cale; JS Bach - a fascinating insight into this remarkable musician. Claude's inimitable style incorporates all five digits on each hand dancing independently but in unison, plucking, picking and strumming with speed and precision.. In the U.K alone, Claude has played Glastonbury Festival, Isle of Wight Festival, and Colne Great British & Blues Festival, and many, many others major festivals and top venues. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZliconUVvU Now based in the north of England, Claude was at one time based in Portsmouth, and many will remember his incredible gigs at The Bullfrog Blues Club when we were based on South Parade Pier. It's great to have him back! Short Stuff are Dave Thomas and Mark Howes , a fine blues duo who play acoustic blues with a sense of humour, panache and energy . Dave Thomas was once supported by Fleetwood Mac (yeah, that`s right - they supported HIM!) , and Dave's also played - by special invitation - for Paul McCartney, and worked with around 40 black American blues artists and has an official citation from the City of Cleveland for his contribution to blues there. Dave enjoyed a residency in the Half Moon Putney back in the mid-seventies, and in 1975 recorded a live set. The tape was lost , but 40 years later it was found in a Hackney attic, dusted off and released.! This year Dave played the Chicago Blues Festival and dates in Cleveland, Ohio and New York. Mark Howes has been a guitarist for 20 years, and plays iblues & roots incorporating a wide range of influences from slide guitar and blues rock lead, all the way to soul/funk/gospel style rhythm parts and country picking. His band Dove & Boweevil Band is prevalent on the UK live circuit and their album "This Life" was nominated for best blues album in the British Blues Awards, and Mark's been previously in the nominations list in "Best Blues Guitarist "category too.
