HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all! Every gig of 2017 at The Bullfrog Blues Club is already booked, and we've got a cracking lineup of blues for you!!! To start the New Year with a bang, for the first gig of 2017 (Thursday 5th January) we're delighted to welcome back CATFISH to The Bullfrog. They went down a storm last time they played, , and since then have gone from strength to strength. CATFISH feature Kevin Yates (drums), Dusty Bones (bass), Paul Long (keys and vocals), and the phenomenal 22 year-old guitarist Matt Long, who also provides vocals. Matt has played with Buddy Whittington and supported British Blues Awards winners Aynsley Lister and Chantel McGregor. He's recently completed a degree in Guitar Performance . Just 9 months after their first ever gig, CATFISH received two nominations in the 2015 British Blues Awards (emerging artist and keyboards), and followed that recently with three nominations in 2016 (band of the year, young artist for Matt Long and keyboards again for Paul). Paul was delighted to be the winner of the keyboards category and Matt was third in the Young Artist category. On 1st January 2015, the band released its first album `So Many Roads'. It took off in a way that none of them expected. Within weeks of its release, it was Number 1 in the Independent Blues Broadcasters Association playlist chart for January. It was also chosen as one of the I.B.B.A. Pick Of The Month albums for February, as well as being played on the Paul Jones Blues Show on BBC Radio 2. This was followed in January 2016 by the release of an E.P. in tribute to the late B.B. King - five tracks of which four are B.B. King originals. The E.P spent two months at no 5 in the I.B.B.A. airplay charts. The key to the success of both the album and E.P. was undoubtedly the superb job that Paul Long of the band (a recording engineer and live music producer all his working life) brought to the recording and production. CATFISH have already started work on their second album which is mostly original material but will also include one cover, the showstopping `Make it Rain' written by Foy Vance. CATFISH have played many of the major festivals in the past 12 months including Bluesfest at the 02 on Matt's 21st birthday last November, Maryport in Cumbria, Bluesrockfest in Kent, and opened the blues stage at Cambridge Rock Festival. They have a number of festivals already booked for 2017 and will also be playing at several major blues clubs across the country -including The Bullfrog Blues Club! on Thursday 5th January! The Bullfrog Blues Club is at The Dockyard Club), Onslow Rd, Southsea, PO5 2NH. Tickets are £8 advance/£10 on the door.
