Re the below, I'm very sorry to tell you that Amy has been forced to postpone tonight's gig - she's suffering from larnygitis and has completely lost her voice!
However, the gig has been rescheduled for 28th MAY,
All tickets sold for tonight will be honoured for that date - but if you can't make the new date, please contact Steve Pitt at The Cellars.
But why not go down to The Cellars tonight anyway? There's now a FREE ENTRY night, featuring the talented duo Chris Ricketts and Mark Wilshire, with special guests - including Dan Ogus...
-------------------------------------------------------------
As many of you know, Barking Spider have booked AMY WADGE many times, and she's
also previously headlined the SOUTHSEA FOLK & ROOTS FESTVAL.
Tonight (Wednesday 9th March) she's appearing with the one and only PETE RILEY
at The Cellars in Eastney, on their 'Don't Go To Bed' tour. This promises to
be a superb gig. And it's just £10!
Amy and Pete met for the first time 2 years ago and have been touring together
ever since. Whilst on the road for the last year they have penned an albums
worth of songs, which will be showcased at The Cellars.
Amy Wadge started writing her own songs at the age of nine, originally on the
family piano. Then, when she was 11 her parents bought her first guitar from a
junk shop. Amy taught herself to play along to Tracy Chapman's debut album.
While still at school, she regularly gigged around Bristol's music venues and
at the age of 14, she signed her first record deal with her band 'Two Of A Mind'
and released her first single at the age of 16.
Having graduated from the Royal Welsh College and Music and Drama, she started
performing at Open Mic sessions in Cardiff's Toucan Club and soon started
developing a fan base.
She was quickly spotted and received encouragement from some of the big players
in the city, among them, Manics/Catatonia/Super Furry Animals producer, Greg
Haver, who recorded her debut mini-album, 'The Famous Hour'. So striking was
this album that the BBC invited her to launch the digital radio station BBC 6
Music along with Lenny Kravitz and The Stereophonics.
In 2002, Wadge won "Best Female Solo Act" at the annual Welsh Music Awards,
ahead of Charlotte Church.
In 2003 she toured Australia with the Welsh Rugby Team during the Rugby World
Cup with the song ''Adre Nôl''. Later that year she retained her "Best Female
Solo Act" at the Welsh Music Awards.
2004 saw her release her first full album, "'Woj', followed in 2006 by ' No
Sudden Moves', which included a cover of the Manic Street Preachers song 'Design
for Life'.
2008 saw the release of her third album, 'Bump' - recorded over two days when
she was 8 months pregnant. It includes a cover of ''Don't Leave Me This Way''
(originally recorded by Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, and later covered by The
Communards).
In late 2009, Amy released her new single "Hold Me" with new record label,
Choice Music.
Pete Riley played his first gig in Liverpool at the age of 12, and went on to
play in numerous bands touring the U.K through the late 80s and early 90s.
In late 1996 his band Treehouse decided to try their luck in the USA, After
appearing at The Whiskey A Go Go & The Troubadour in Los Angeles, they were
invited to play an impromptu gig at Borders Book Store on L/A's Sunset Strip,
which landed them a record deal with Atlantic Records.
Treehouse toured the USA between 1997and 2000, releasing their debut album
"Nobody's Monkey" before splitting up at the end of 2001, after one last final
UK tour, opening for The Cranberries.
Pete then went on to tour solo acoustic in the UK and Ireland. After his first
solo album"After The Parade" was released, Pete was invited back to the USA to
open for the American platinum selling artist Edwin McCain, before joining his
band EMB as a permanent member. He also co-wrote with Edwin McCain for his
last three albums and the single release "Say Anything".
Pete has been writing/recording and producing with a lot of different artists
from all over the world, but mainly in the USA. These include Narada Michael
Walden, Henry Priestman (of The Christians), and now..... Amy Wadge.
Pete has done numerous TV appearances in the USA including VH1, CBS ''Good
Morning America', and recently BBC 1's 'The Politics Show' . Pete's songs also
feature in the Warner Bros TV drama "Jack and Bobby" and the 2010 Miley Cyrus
Disney Movie "The Last Song".
Pete has been touring acoustic in the UK with Henry Priestman, and has
co-written 2 tracks with Henry for his new album, due for release 2011 on
Universal Records.
