I'm delighted to announce THE IAN PARKER BAND are at The Bullfrog Blues Club on South Parade Pier, Southsea, this Thursday, 9th September. Ian's appeared at The Bullfrog before, and since then his reputaton has risen by leaps and bounds, and it's only now that we've been lucky enough to get him back. This time he's back as an acoustic trio, with two fine musicians from his full electric band, the wonderful Chris Eaton on slide guitars and virtuoso double bass player Steve Amadeo. If you've not heard of Ian - where have you BEEN? Ian's worked alongside Jeff Beck, John Mayall, Walter Trout and Peter Green. In 2002, Ian opened two London shows for Eric Clapton.. "The best band I've seen in a decade - Ian's voice, feel and guitar technique are what his contemporaries can only dream of!" (Walter Trout) Ian's not only a great songwriter, he's also an original craftsman with bitter-sweet vocal delivery, and a distinctively expressive guitar style. Roots music forms the foundation of his sound, and the emphasis lies firmly on entertaining everyone present, not just the guitar fans. Ian’s career took off in the summer of 2003, when he signed to Ruf Records who released his debut album 'Inside"' , following a personal introduction to Prince's legendary US record producer David Z. In the sleevenotes to the album David Z wrote "I was truly honoured to be involved in this project" In March 2004, Ian appeared on Germany's top live music TV show, 'Rockpalast', and "Whilst the Wind", - a live DVD of this incendiary performance was released in June 2005. A live album of Ian's gig in Hannover during his December 2004 European Tour was also released in June 2005 under the same title, and both releases notched up impressive sales. In September 2005, Ian visited Clarksdale, Mississippi and Memphis, Tennessee, together with another Bullfrog Blues Club favourite Aynsley Lister. During this journey Aynsley and Ian both independently wrote and recorded songs for the album 'Pilgramage"' (released January 2006) On his return from America, Ian began a lengthy artistic process based around his rediscovery of the roots artists who had inspired him. The resulting album, 'Where I Belong' , was released in January 2007 and produced by Matt Butler, whose extensive CV includes Sir Paul McCartney. The ensuing promotional tour culminated with the recording of ‘The Official Bootleg’ which captures the highlights of the final UK leg of a gruelling eighteen month long tour of Europe and the UK. Ian spent much of 2008 writing new material, and at the beginning of sessions began in Bath's famous Riverside Studios. The resulting five track EP, 'Demons And Doubters' was recorded under the guidance and supervision of Clive Deamer (Robert Plant, Portishead, Massive Attack), and Jon Jacobs (who learned his trade with Sir George Martin at Air Studios). With these songs, Ian has made a subtle but noticeable shift of direction, and is at the beginning of an exciting new chapter in his career. His music remains based in roots, and his signature bluesy guitar licks have not gone away, but the emphasis is now firmly on the songs. THE IAN PARKER BAND are at The Bullfrog Blues Club on South Parade Pier, Southsea, this Thursday, 9th September -doors open 8 p.m, tickets £9 in advance (www.barkingspider.abelgratis.com) or on the door.
