It is with regret that I have to tell you that due to lack of support from the public, all the free entry Thursday nights at The R.M.A. at 58 Cromwell Rd, Southsea have now ceased. Barking Spider Promotions have been responsible for booking all the artistes for over six years, so this is a sad occasion for me in particular. Kev Smith, the present licensee, has tried hard to keep the free entry Thursday gigs going, but it's impossible to pay artistes without taking a reasonable amount over the bar - and with total attendances as abysmal as they have been over the last year, it's not rocket science to work out that this can't continue. Amongst the Thursday night artistes over the last year we've had visits from such great artistes from home and abroad including STOMPIN' DAVE ALLEN, BEX MARSHALL, KRIS DOLLIMORE, MICHAEL WESTON-KING , ROBIN BIBI (solo), TINDERBOX, ANDY SMYTHE TRIO KINGSIZE SLIM, CROSBY TYLER, RON TRUEMAN BORDER, SEAN TAYLOR, SONS OF THE DELTA, CRUEL FOLK and the inimitable ALAN CLAYSON, We've also been fortunate to present some top local performers over the past year. including CLAUDE BOURBON, MICK SHAW (from POWER OF THREE) PETE HARRIS & HUGH BUDDEN (from PETE HARRIS BLUES BAND), TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT, GREENMAN, THE BARNSTORMERS, SKUNK FUNK, BURNT ICE, and THE ROADRUNNERS. To all the great artistes who have played - and everyone who HAS supported the free entry Thursdays - a resounding THANK YOU!!!! However, The good news is that the Saturday free entry gigs WILL continue, and some of the artistes who would normally appear on Thursdays will be performing on Saturdays in 2011. I'm pleased to tell you that the IAN PARKER gig in the Gun Room of The R.M.A. is till going ahead and tickets (just £6!) are still available. CLAUDE BOURBON's gig on Thursday 16th October will still go ahead, but it will now be in the Gun Room and tickets are a very reasonable £5 to see this world class guitarist & singer. Tickets for both gigs are available from The R.M.A. Tavern during opening hours or on line via Paypal from the website www.barkingspider.abelgratis.com. On Thursday 2nd December Roger Courtney's Open Mike Club moves from The Barn in Milton to The RMA Tavern. "PLAY @ THE RMA" will be every Thursdays from 7.30pm, and is free entry. All enquiries should be addressed to Nick Courtney at vinylrecordsuk@aol.com, NOT Barking Spider Promotions. J.R.
