In 2001, when Country Joe McDonald returned to South Parade Pier , Southsea to play for the first time since 1969, his backing band were Reet Petite and Gone - who were Joe's band thoughout the whole tour. Ir was only the prospect of playing with Joe that coaxed them out of retirement.... After the tour, Reet Petite and Gone disbanded again, and apart from one memorable appearance at The Theatre Royal this year, the full REET PETITE & GONE line up have never appeared on stage again. However, Dr. Dave Allen, R.P + G's washboard virtuoso and vocalist, accompanied Joe on many of his subsequent tours - both solo and with The Country Joe Band, and with J.R the Barking Spider on spoons and Dave on washboard, they sat in with Joe on a couple of songs on almost every gig. Other R P & G Band members also joined Joe - and the Country Joe Band - on many occassions. The good news is that Reet Petite (with possibly "And..") will be supporting The Barry The Fish Melton Band at South Parade Pier, on Monday 26th July when Barry appears with some VERY special guests, David LaFlamme and Linda LaFlamme, members of another legendary San Francisco band It's A Beautiful Day! This makes a great gig even greater, as (most of...) one of Southsea's best loved and missed bands are back! REET (Dr. Dave) PETITE (Denis) and hopefully AND (Nick), with be there, but GONE is gone, as Stewart has no plans to perform in the near future. To paraphrase Bonnie Raitt's comment about Little Feat... "I miss Reet Petitie and Gone more than I miss being eight years old"... So...whaddya waitin' for? Tickets on sale NOW on the website, www.barkingspider.abelgratiscom - and they're ONLY £9. The bargain of the year!!!!! J.R =
