Sad news, particularly for those of us who grew up as 'children of the sixties'..... the legendary American rock and roll photographer Jim Marshall died in his sleep last night. He was 74 years old. Jim Marshall is best known for his iconic shots of Jimi Hendrix burning his guitar at Monterey Pop, The Who greeting the sunrise at Woodstock, Country Joe on stage solo at Woodstock, and - of course - Johnny Cash 'flipping the bird' at San Quentin. Although I never met Jim Marshall, one of my most treasured possesions is a (very) limited edition copy of Jim's photograph of Country Joe McDonald on stage solo at Woodstock, signed by Jim. It's also signed and dedicated to me by Country Joe, who very kindly sent it to me as a gift. It's hanging on the wall next to my desk.... We won't see his like again.... R.I.P. Jim - you truly ALWAYS "gave it your best shot"..... John
