Monday 26th July - Barry "the Fish" Melton, It's A Beautiful Day & Reet Petite & Gone at Southsea!

On Monday 26th July The Barry "The Fish" Melton Band are coming to South Parade Pier, Southsea on their 2010 U.K tour, with some VERY special guests, David LaFlamme and Linda LaFlamme, members of another legendary San Francisco band It's A Beautiful Day!

And the icing on the cake? The ENTIRE line up of Pompey's finest psychedelic skiffle band, Reet Petite and Gone, reforming for JUST this gig!

Country Joe McDonald and Barry "the Fish" Melton were the only constant members of Country Joe & the Fish, and Barry is one of the most influentual of the original pyschedelic guitarists from the San Francisco scene of the 60's.

Barry's lead guitar - a searing psychedelic assault on the strings - was as essential a part of Country Joe and the Fish as Joe's voice. Amid numerous personnel changes, Barry Melton and Country Joe McDonald were the stable core of the band, which lasted into the late '60s.

After Country Joe went solo, Barry brought ex Big Brother & The Holding Company members Peter Albin and David Getz aboard after Janis Joplin left the band.

Working as Barry the "Fish" Melton, he continued as a solo act through the 1970s to the present day, and also fronts the Barry the "Fish" Melton Band,

The Southsea gig will mean that following appearances by Country Joe McDonald and also The Country Joe Band, that Barking Spider Promotions will have managed to bring EVERY member of the Monterey Festival/"Electric Music For The Mind & Body"/"Feel Like I'm Fixing To Die" line-up of Country Joe and The Fish to South Parade Pier - but not all at the same time!

In his last ever interview, the late great John Peel said..... "My favourite album of that era really was - and remains - Country Joe and the Fish's 'Electric Music For The Mind Of Body'".

The Barry "The Fish" Melton Band will include David LaFlamme and Linda LaFlamme, of It's A Beautiful Day. In 1969, the group released the self-titled album,' It's A Beautiful Day', and enjoyed their greatest success with the song 'White Bird', featuring David LaFlamme's soaring violin. The band opened for The Grateful Dead, The Jefferson Airplane, Big Brother and The Holding Company and performed at Cream's farewell appearance.
