TOMORROW!!!!! Thursday (5th November) at The Bullfrog Blues Club on South Parade
Pier, Southsea - THE
MICK PINI BAND!
A
recent gig produced the newspaper headline: “An honour to see a blues
legend in action.”
And Eric Clapton says... "The legitimate successor to Peter Green”. Not a bad endorsement!!!!! And no wonder that Mick Double, Eric Clapton’s manager can regularly
be found at the back of the room, quietly enjoying Mick’s set.
You may have seen Mick Pini play at the Pier before, either with The
Mick Pini Band or as guitarist for The Jimmy Carl Black band. Jimmy,
of course, was part of Frank Zappa's band for many years, and there's
no way Jimmy would have played with any guitarist who wssn't ahead of
the game. Sadly, Jimmy's no longer with us, he passed away two years
ago...
When you see Mick live you are guaranteed the real
deal; a joy not to be missed - nothing less than a blues master
class. No pedals, no effects, just a '54 Strat played by
a bluesmeister.
Mick started playing guitar in 1960. Over a lifetime he’s worked with deep breath now...) Doctor Ross, Professor Longhair, Rich Grech, Mojo Buford,
Louisana Red, Dick Heckstall-Smith, Chris Farlowe, Mike Vernon, BB
King, Luther Allison – and more than a few others.
Currently based in
Germany, Mick has more recently worked with Roy Estrada (Little Feat)
and, as I mentioned earlier, the late Jimmy Carl Black (Frank Zappa & The Mothers of Invention).
Mick Vernon
described Mick Pini as “ having the energy and attack that made Freddie King
one of the greats. There are too few great guitarists working the
European scene. Sure there are many good ones, but only a few have the
potential to make a mark in a way Peter Green did many years ago.”
Here's some accolades from his peers...
B.B.King - "Great man, I like it!"
Sherman Robertson - "You're the first white blues player with a black feel"
Dr Ross - "Man, I love your playing"
Sam Kelly: "He' s an animal! Great to be on stage with!"
Ian Parker (Blues Matters) - "Best live Blues player I've ever seen and been influenced by".
Maggie Bell - "Keep playing them blues, Mick"
Dick Heckstall Smith -" I haven't heard anything like this since I did the Clapton' Beano' 1966 John Mayall album"
.Luther Allison - "Man, we're going to have to get together!'
Roger Chapman - "A great player".
Roger Inniss - 'You need help, brother!'
Mick Avery (Kinks drummer) - "A real great player".
And here's what the press and media say about Mick....
Joachim Kirsten (Blues News Germany ) - "One of the top acts on the Continent"
Dirk Fohrs ('Blues News' magazine, Germany) - "A great British Blues player".
Annie Nightingale - "Absolutely brilliant".
