Koko Taylor, the undisputed “Queen of Blues” passed away in a Chicago hospital on Wednesday, at the age of 80. Her death came about almost 4 weeks after her performance in Blues Music Award in Memphis. The Grammy award winner was recovering from a gastrointestinal surgery that had taken place on May 19, butl her condition deteriorated on Wednesday morning, and she died the same afternoon. At her bedside was Bruce Iglauer, the owner of Alligator Records, Kok'ss producer, manager and close friend since 1974. Koko Taylor's singing career was spread over five decades, her hits including “Wang Dang Doodle”, “What Kind Of Man Is This”, “I Got What It takes”, “I’m a Woman", and “Hey Bartender” With Koko Taylor's death, a whole era of classic blues is gone: one that the music lovers had come to associate with her and Chicago.
