Live at the Bandstand 2009 Portsmouth City Council’s Events Team are looking for local bands to play as part of this year’s Live at the Bandstand free outdoor music programme on Southsea Seafront. Every Sunday from the end of May to the end of August the Events Team hosts free afternoons of live music set in a natural amphitheatre behind the D-Day museum overlooking the Solent. Each week offers a different style of music and at least half of that programme includes local bands. For 2009 the Events Team want to broaden the opportunity for local bands to be part of the programme, and will be running open auditions, a bit like Battle of the Bands, to check out the local musical talent with the winners of each heat going through to the final where a panel of judges will select 4 bands for a showcase at the bandstand. Criteria for selection: An unsigned band from PO1-PO6 areas A band who have NOT previously played at Bandstand Original music – there will be heats, and a panel of judges. Covers / tribute bands will be selected by local pubs / promoters. All bands / singers and songwriters will be required to submit a demo, and from these Express fm will select which bands / singers will make it through to one of the heats. Venues: Heats will take place in March, at a venue to be confirmed. There will be a separate night of audi tions for singers / songwriters held at Eastney Cellers. If you want to be part of this audition process, please submit a recent, good quality demo and contact details (including an address) to: Simon Gibbons, Bandstand Competition, Express Fm, 49 Arundel Street, Portsmouth PO1 1SA. All demos need to have at least three tracks which accurately represent your music. Every band who sends in an entry should nominate a contact person to be available for an interview with Express Fm. Demos to be considered MUST be received by Friday 13th February (less than 2 weeks away) clearly marked Bandstand Competition.
