The Bullfrog Blues Club are pleased to announce a rare chance to see blues diva Angela Brown from Chicago when she appears at The Cellars At Eastney next Tuesday, September 9th with her U.K. band, The Mighty 45's. "Raucous, raunchy and rumbustious“ are just some of the words that have been used to describe this great singer, a genuine living legend of the blues. . Born in Chicago, Angela began her musical career by singing gospel music, but after playing the role of Gertrude “Ma” Rainey in a stage musical she devote herself to singing the blues. She honed her craft in numerous Chicago blues clubs, often accompanied by pianist Little Brother Montgomery, or sharing the stage with the likes of `Blind´ John Davis, Pinetop Perkins, B.B. King, Georgie Fame, Long John Baldrey …the list goes on. She was soon dubbed “The Bessie Smith of the Eighties” a deserved title given her strong renditions of vaudeville blues material. Her powerful voice is also well-suited to more modern blues and jazz styles, becoming a popular attraction at festivals all over the world; not only vocally, but for her onstage presence and oomph!! Angela has been included in The Guinness Book, `Who´s Who of Blues´, and the new ´Virgin´s Encyclopedia of the Blues´. making her one of the few living legends in blues music today. Past years have seen Angela voted in France “International Chanteuse De L´Annee 1999”, a nd in the U.K. “Overseas Female Artist of the Year'. Her album “Thinking Out Loud” with The Mighty 45's was runner up as the UK Album of the Year 2000. Other releases include released "Angela Brown – LIVE", 'If I Hadn't Been High', and in 2005 Angela released a collaboration with Jan Luley entitled “Wings of Blues”. In 2006 the C.D. “In A Dangerous Mood" was released featuring The Mighty 45s. Don't miss this chance to see a living legend!
