REMINDER!!! KENT DUCHAINE - this Wednesday at The Cellars!!!

Kent Duchaine from Minnesota,  is one of the world's greatest performers of acoustic  blues.  "The  Times"  named  him as giving  "one of the five best concerts in the UK.". The good news is that he's headed from the Southern States of America to the Southsea,  when The Bullfrog Blues Club presents Kent in concert  at The Cellars At  Eastney, on Wednesday 12th November.

Kent DuChaine learned to play the ukulele at the age of six, and got his  first  guitar at  13.  After reading the liner notes of an Eric Clapton album, DuChaine borrowed a Robert Johnson album from the local library. So taken back by Johnson's music he literally wore the album out listening to it.  He never looked back, and immersed himself in the delta blues  of  Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Lightnin' Hopkins,  T-Bone Walker, Bukka White and Elmore James.

Although Kent  learned to play slide guitar in 1969, a pivotal moment occurred in 1979,  when he found his beloved "Leadbessie."  -  a beat-up 1934 National Steel guitar kitted out with extra heavy strings to cope with Kent's  ferociously powerful style. In  1982, he  took "Leadbessie" on the road, finally settling in the South Eastern United States, where in 1989 he  met and established a partnership with legendary blues man Johnny Shines

They recorded 'Back to the Country' with harmonica great Snooky Pryor , which  won The WC Handy Award for Best Country Blues Album.

In 1991, when the Smithsonian Institute honoured the King of the Delta Blues, Robert Johnson,  Kent DuChaine and Johnny Shines were invited to perform at this prestigious 25th Annual Festival of American Folklife.  The end result was the Grammy nominated album ;Roots of Rhythm and Blues: A Tribute to the Robert Johnson Era'  released by Sony/Columbia.

DuChaine and Shines performed over 200 shows together traveling all over North America, although Kent  continued his solo career. Their relationship was cut short by Shines' death in April 1992.

Kent has released six albums and  now  performs throughout  Europe and Scandinavia - he has over 45 overseas  tours under his belt ,and still manages to perform all over North America.

The Bullfrog Blues Club present Kent DuChaine  at The Cellars , Cromwell Road  Eastney on  Wednesday  12th November. Doors open 8 p.m Tickets are just £8, from The Cellars website, www.thecellars.co.uk., on the door (subject to availability) or ring 02392 826249 to reserve.
