Terry Reid is a true rock guitar legend - and has often been referred to as "the nearly man".... read on.... After leaving school in 1965 at the age of 15, Terry Reid joined Peter Jay's Jaywalkers - the following year they supported the Rolling Stones at the Royal Albert Hall. When the band broke up in 1967, Reid turned solo, releasing his album "Bang Bang, You're Terry Reid", and in 1968 toured the U.S.A with Cream. When The Yardbirds disbanded, their guitarist Jimmy Page wanted him as vocalist for his new group, Led Zeppelin. Reid had already committed to open for the Rolling Stones on their 1969 U.S tour, so he suggested that Page consider a young Birmingham singer, Robert Plant.... Reid later turned down an offer to join Deep Purple - Ian Gillan took the job instead. Terry Reid's second album, "Terry Reid" (1969) is regarded as his best work. In 1970, Reid who was now living in the U.S.A.returned briefly to England to perform at the Isle of Wight Festival In 1973 the album "River", produced by Eddie Offord (Yes) was released, followed by "Seed Of Memory" (1976) and Rogue Waves (1979) Terry Reid retired his solo career in 1981 to concentrate on session work, appearing on albums by Don Henley, Jackson Browne, and Bonnie Raitt, and Mike Scott's classic, "The Whole of the Moon". In the 1990s Reid also toured in the U.S.A and Hong Kong with ex-Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor, and has since been playing occasional live gigs with a band which includes Brian Auger In late 2005, Reid returned to the UK for his first tour in years. It is understood that the 'magic shone through'. In July/August 2007 Reid returned for another six week UK tour, which included a memorable gig at The Cellars. He played The Royal Festival Hall last week, so book now - he may not pass this way again...... WEDS 11TH JUNE 2008 - HOWARD JONES - £18.50 ADV – 2 thirds sold There are few artists who came to prominence in the eighties who are as prolific and hard working as Howard Jones. He seems to be constantly out on tour or creating diverse and superbly crafted albums in his studio in Somerset England. In 2007 alone he released 3 albums and played over 60 concerts around the world including UK, USA, Australia, Denmark, Sweden, Italy and Dubai. In the early 80's Howard secured a residency at the legendary Marquee Club in London and signed to WEA records. There followed a string of hits including 'New Song', 'What is Love', 'Hide and Seek', 'Like to Get To Know You Well', 'Pearl in the Shell', 'Things Can Only Get Better', 'Life in One Day', 'Look Mama', 'Everlasting Love' and 'No One is To Blame'. To date Howard has sold over eight million albums. Recently most of Howard's concerts are acoustic, when he uses his superb ability as a songwriter combined with his well honed skills as a piano player to great effect. At the heart of all this are his lyrics which usually contain, somewhat unfashionably, a positive message.
