As I told you all recently, COLVIN QUARMBY's XMAS CRACKER concert at Petersfield on Saturday 15th December 2007 is totally sold out... and there are literally just a few tickets left for COLVIN QUARMBY's gig on Friday 14th December at The R.M.A. Tavern, in Cromwell Rd., Southsea. I can now confirm Naomi Bedford and Paul Simmonds as special guests for the R.M.A. gig - and there may well be more special guests to come! Paul Simmonds (guitar, bouzouki, keyboards) was a founder member of THE MEN THEY COULDN'T HANG and is still with the band. In 1984 released their debut recording, a "Peel Sessions" E.P., and their single "Green Fields of France" appeared at number 3 in John Peel's Festive 50 that year - in the following year "Ironmasters" was number 11 in the Festive 50. Before they split in 1991, THE MEN THEY COULDN'T HANG had released the albums "Night Of A Thousand Candles", "How Green Is The Valley", "Waiting For Bonaparte", "Domino Club" , and 'Alive, Alive-O' - a live recording of their farewell performance at London's Town and Country Club. They reunited in 1996 releasing "Never Born To Follow" "Six Pack EP" "Best Of..", "Majestic Grill", "The Mud, The Blood And The Beer" and "The Cherry Red Jukebox". THE MEN THEY COULDN'T HANG are appearing at The Brook in Southampton on 22nd December, and Gosport and Fareham Easter Festival on 22nd March next year, but you can expect some acoustic versions of THE MEN THEY COULDN'T HANG classics at The R.M.A. Tavern on Friday December 14th at The COLVIN QUARMBY gig! NAOMI BEDFORD is the singer with Jonah Hex. She's been involved in many musical projects including session work and girl bands (more Ronnettes than Spice Girls!) Naomi got her first guitar at 13... "my next door neighbour was Andy Summers, guitarist with The Police, who taught me my first two chords". She grew up on a heavy diet of Dolly Parton and The Clash and as well as these also sites Kate Rusby and Wilco amongst her favourite artists. Her first live performance was singing with the "new wave of new wave" band S*M*A*S*H, who had a brief touch of fame in the mid 90's. Naomi's debut TV appearance was on the 'Later...with Jools Holland' show singing with the dance band Orbital. Her lead vocals feature on the most recent Orbital single, 'Funny Break'. Tickets for the R.M.A. gig are £7, and, as I said in my earlier e-mail, this intimate gig is limited to just 50 people - at time of writing, there are just TEN tickets left!!!! SO WAIT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? This is going to be a superb gig! To reserve your tickets please e-mail Ken Brown direct - kenbrown1@tinyworld.co.uk - and cc the message to me too. Thanks! J.R.
