ZOOT MONEY & PAPA GEORGE at THE CELLARS this TUESDAY 31st JULY

When Barking Spider Promotions organised the TITCHFIELD BLUES AT THE ABBEY  a couple of years ago the legendary ZOOT MONEY headlined, and was absolutely astounding! A special unscheduled guest was Boz Burrell, from Bad Company, who sadly is no longer with us. It was a GREAT end to a fine night of music..

But if you missed it, all is not lost! ZOOT MONEY appears with PAPA GEORGE at The Cellars At Eastney this Tuesday - 31st July,  a joint Barking Spider/ Cellars promotion.

Three decades and more have seen Zoot in the entertainment business. From his R&B show in the Sixties to the present day he's been a formidable contributor to the British music scene maintaining a career as a classic R&B singer and keyboard player.

He began his early career fusing R&B with jazz when he teamed up with guitarist Andy Summers (Police), tenor sax player Nick Newall and drummer Colin Allen to form The Big Roll Band – bringing a fresh sound to the R&B scene.

Since his early days with Alexis Korner, Zoot has featured with The Alan Price Band as well as their offshoot, The Electric Blues Company. In recent years he's played in partnership with Dick Heckstall-Smith & Spencer Davis, as well as Mick Taylor and Pete York.

His songwriting credits include songs for Lulu and Long John Baldry, as well as Jimmy Witherspoon ("It Never Rains But It Pours") and  recently produced Ruby Turner's album "Call Me By My Name". Zoot also produced the "Tutti Frutti" album from the television series of the same name in 1985, a series which launched the careers of Robbie Coltrane and Emma Thompson.

Alongside this rich and varied music career, Zoot has regularly been seen on our television screens. Apart from many commercials, he has appeared in "Eastenders", "London's Burning", "The Bill", "The Professionals", "The Piglet Files" and "Get Back" (the BBC series that featured Ray Winstone in his only sitcom).

Today Zoot's huge talent continues to bring his own blend of experience and fun to entertain and amuse you.
He's out on the road and ready to continue his affair with R&B. In addition to his duo shows with Papa George, he's a member of the acclaimed British Blues Quintet and still tours with his own Big Roll Band.

Don't miss the chance to see a legend - and those of you old enough (like the Barking Spider!) relive the spirit of the Birdcage Club, where Zoot performed regularly in the sixties!
