CHRIS FARLOWE - at The Cellars at Eastney - Saturday Feb 24th!!!!!!! When Barking Spider first started back in 2000, CHRIS FARLOWE & THE NORMAN BEAKER BAND were one of our first bookings -and what a night it was! Barking Spider are delighted to be bringing CHRIS FARLOWE & THE NORMAN BEAKER BAND back, when they co-promote the gig at The Cellars At Eastney on Saturday 24 February. Chris' connection with Eastney came in the sixties, when the legendary venue The Birdcage Club was in its prime. The gig at The Cellars will be a rare opportunity to see this classic performer "up close" - when, forty years on, Chris Farlowe returns to Eastney - where the spirit of The Birdcage Club still lives! Chris' classic number one "Out Of Time" was written for him by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, and is still high on radio playlists. His first band, The Thunderbirds featured such luminaries as Dave Greenslade, Carl Palmer and Albert Lee. In the '70s, Chris recorded two albums with Colosseum, before joining Atomic Rooster. In the mid-70s, a new Thunderbirds line-up was formed, once again featuring Albert Lee. Since 1986, when Chris sang on Jimmy Page's solo album "Outrider" he has worked on a number of projects, including the critically acclaimed "Waiting in the Wings" album in 1993, which also featured Micky Moody, Leo Lyons, Alvin Lee, Boz Burrell and Albert Lee. A tour followed on which Chris was joined by Maggie Bell playing to sell out crowds. In 1995, he toured Europe with the re-formed Colosseum. Since the late '90s, Chris has toured regularly with The Norman Beaker Band, and has also worked and recorded with Van Morrison and toured with Maggie Bell and the Manfreds. Chris Farlowe is the consummate rocker, still holding his audiences spellbound - 'The Voice' is as strong as ever. He has recently released a 46 track anthology 'Rock n' Roll Soldier'. Chris' 2006 tour celebrated 50 years in the business and that year he received a coveted Gold Badge Award from The British Academy of Composers and Songwriters at their annual award ceremony at The Savoy Hotel for his special contribution to Britain's entertainment industry. Hopefully Chris Farlowe's gig will mark the start of a great relationship berween Barking Spider and The Cellars. Other co-promotion gigs lined up with are LITTLE TOBY WALKER, CLAYSON & THE ARGONAUTS, JOHN OTWAY, and DAVE PEGG with P.J.WRIGHT -and to keep the Farlowe connection still going, JAMES LITHERLAND from Colosseum has just been booked! CHRIS FARLOWE & THE NORMAN BEAKER BAND appear at THE CELLARS AT EASTNEY on Saturday 24 February. Tickets: £14 advance (from The Cellars) or £16 on the door - subject to availability.
