Further to Giles Morgan's thought provoking e mail which I forwarded to you all, I've just received this from the renowned old timey fiddle player Andy James.............
Interesting idea. There is compelling evidence that Paganini ,The great 19th. Century violin vituoso, who was capable of stunning technical feats had Marfan's . He had extraordinarily long fingers and the cadaverous appearance associated with the syndrome.
He exploited his bizzare appearance , and rumours that his skills were a gift from the devil undoubtedly helped draw the vast audiences who were recorded as being overwhelmed by the power of his performances to the extent that some of them fainted .
Paganini also died young , poisoned by the mercury that he was taking to treat his syphillis .
Am I correct in thinking that Robert Johnson was also reputed to have done a deal with the devil?
