Fwd: Blues legend Robert Johnson on your wireless TONIGHT

Re my last about Robert Lockwood jnr., I've had quite a few replies - it's nice to know that I'm not the only one who cares how few links there are left with the great Robert Johnson.

If you want to hear a recordings of the man himself, and a lot ofother good stuff, read on.......

Well, not "live" you understand but a whole programme dedicated to the man, his music and those whom he influenced (just about every blues performer since the 1940s?).

The reason for this? Tomorrow, 23 November, sees the 70th anniversary of his first recording session in San Antonio, Texas and although that doesn't quite fall on the day of the show that's near enough for me.

I've included four of the numbers he cut that day (a Monday, incidentally) as well as reminiscences of him, scattered between tracks, by one-time playing partner David "Honeyboy" Edwards as recounted to Pete Welding in 1967 and issued on his "Crawling Kingsnake" LP on Testament.

There are also contributions from a relatively random selection of bands and individuals who have covered his material. Obviously this couldn't be anything more than that due to the sheer volume of Robert Johnson covers made (and still being made).

The full tracklist is as follows:

"Crossroads" - Cream
"Rambling' On My Mind" - Robert Johnson
"Sweet Home Chicago" - David "Honeyboy" Edwards
"Kind Hearted Woman Blues" - Robert Johnson
"Stop Breakin' Down" - Aynsley Lister
"Come On In My Kitchen" - Robert Johnson
"Love In Vain" - Keb' Mo'
"Walkin' Blues" - Muddy Waters
"When You Got A Good Friend" - Robert Johnson
"Aw Baby (Sweet Home Chicago)" - Robert Jr Lockwood
"King Hearted Woman" - Louis Myers
"Stones In My Passway" - Rory Block

A true Robert Johnson fest!

So if you want to indulge yourself or you've never heard the originals you'll need to tune in tonight to BBC Radio Solent on 96.1fm (or your local BBC equivalent) from 21:00-22:00 (GMT) or via the web at:

www.bbc.co.uk/england/radiosolent and click on the "Listen Live" button where all will be revealed.

And if you really liked the show (or prefer to listen to it at a more sociable hour if you live in far-flung regions) then you can listen to it again throughout the following week via BBC Radio Kent's archive at:
