Although this isn't a Barking Spider gig, this one comes highly recommended........ Sadly, we shall never get the opportunity to see NICK DRAKE again, but there's a chance to see the wonderful KEITH JAMES (with RICK FOOT) in their excellent "Tribute to Nick Drake" show. As many of you will remember, Keith James has brought his Nick Drake Tribute to the South Parade Pier for Barking Spider Promotions a couple of times and performed superb shows. Keith James is acknowledged as the finest interpreter of the work of late lamented Nick Drake, is about to embark on another tour performing Nick Drake's songs live on stage, and will be bringing his tribute to "The Cellars at Eastney", in Cromwell Road, this Wednesday, 6th June. Previous tours across the country have seen audiences filling Arts Centres and theatres to hear this music again. An occasion, that all of you, who have cherished Nick's unique fragility and poetry over the past 30 years would never have believed was possible. Nick Drake himself, was at the time of his writing and recording, somewhat of a mystery to all. Painfull, full of personal doubt and troubles, lonely and insular, he only lived to record three full albums - "Five Leaves Left", "Bryter Later" and "Pink Moon", all of which were regarded at the time as being flimsy and without the substance that was called for to engage popular audiences. It has only been in the last ten years that many thousands of listeners have come to appreciate his beauty. Nick Drake has now, thankfully become the most revered of all contemporary English singer/songwriters, and Keith James' tribute is not only a reminder of the huge talent that was Nick Drake, but also provokes thoughts of what Nick might have been capable of today... "I have no idea how someone can just stand up there and and do that" CHRIS POTTER (Producer of The Verve, Richard Ashcroft) "A total sell out" TOWER ARTS CENTRE WINCHESTER. "That was completely amazing. I really want to shake your hand" PHOENIX ARTS CENTRE EXETER. "This weeks tickets have gone mad" PHOENIX ARTS CENTRE EXETER. "An amazing voice, great depth, thanks for a great show" THE BOARDWALK, SHEFFIELD. "Nick Drake is a difficult task - with a suitably sandpaper-and-honey voice Keith James does a first rate job" BRISTOL EVENING POST. "That was beautiful, please come back" BBC RADIO BRISTOL KEITH JAMES presents an evening with Nick Drake at "The Cellars at Eastney", in Cromwell Road, this Wednesday, 6th June.
