Hi y'all, "The News" (Portsmouth) have launched "The Guide" Awards, and nominations close on Wednesday 28th September - less than a week's time! All nominations MUST be artistes residing in "The News" circulation area, apart from "Best Touring Act", obviously... Here are the categories, and maybe some food for thought to jog your memories. Many of the categories cover acts and events organised by Barking Spider and The Bullfrog Blues Club. Best Touring Act: From artistes that have appeared at The Pier, Shane MacGowan & The Popes have been mentioned - but what about Fairport Convention, John Otway, Arthur Brown, all regular attendees at the Pier? Best Pub How about the R.M.A. Tavern in Cromwell Rd., Eastney, as it's easily the best music pub in the area!? Or maybe The Florence Arms? Great food and great landlord, and a supporter of good music too - the Official Southsea Folk & Roots Festival pub! Best Folk.Roots Act: Arlen, Lady Winwood's Maggott, An Seisiun, Kelly's Tattoo and Father Jack have already been mentioned.... Best Club Night How about The Bullfrog Blues Club?!?!?! Best Rock/Pop Band. I would think some of our local rock blues bands would be suitable for nomination. YOU HAVE TO BE RESIDENT IN "THE NEWS" CIRCULATION AREA TO MAKE A NOMINATION !!!!!! Please nominate online - voting for the nominated acts starts on Friday September 30th.
