NICK DRAKE TRIBUTE this Wednesday at South Parade Pier

On Wednesday night something very special comes to South Parade Pier when
Keith James presents his "Tribute to Nick Drake", which has been taking arts
centrea aroun dthe country by storm.
As well as Keith's respectful covering of the Nick Drake songbook,. there
will be a rare showing of the 45 minute Nick Drake documentary film, "A Skin
Too Few", The film is a heartfelt look at the short life of a very gifted
musician told from the perspective of the people who knew him best and provides
a fascinating insight into the world of Nick Drake.
From his birth in Burma through his college days in Cambridge to his career
in music and his subsequent spiral into depression, Nick's story is told
through interviews with family and friends and people he worked with in making
his records. A point that's raised in the documentary was that Nick gave up
playing live dates because no one paid attention to him, everyone was sitting
talking while he played his songs and he found this so disheartening and
frustrating that he just gave up doing live performances all together. Now 31 years
after his death, everyone is paying attention to the music that he has left
behind.
After the film Keith James and his double bass player Rick Foot will be
performing their interpretations of Nick's songs.. There is no doubt that Keith
James is a .talented and Rick Foot adds a great amount of warmth to Nick's
songs with his expressive and largely improvised playing. It takes a
courageous man to take Nick's fragile songs on the road -something that the man
himself could not even do in his lifetime
There wil also be support from Mark Wilson, from Merseyside, who also stirs
the untouchable ghost of Nick Drake with delicate, stirringvocals. With folk
and blues influences, Mark brings a combination of skill and eclecticism to
the guitar, combining dexterous finger picking with brooding compositions,
beautiful songs with a deep running dark edge to them, depicting visions of
failure,

Keith James' "Tribute to Nick Drake" will be at South Parade Pier on
Wednesday 12th October. Doors open at 8.p.m., and tickets are available on the door.
