Hello, Jr is of on his hols again so he asked me to send you these details of gig at the R.M.A. On Saturday 21st May R.M.A Tavern, Cromwell Rd., Southsea, POWER Of THREE are appearing. This power trio, featuring the excellent guitar texchnique and voice of Mick Shaw, specialise in rock blues, and if you like your blues rock hard and heavy, and with a nod in Jimi Hendrix' direction, then look no further. entry, as ever is free! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------- On Tuesday 24th. May award winning Canadian bluesman MICHAEL PICKETT will be at The R.M.A. Tavern in Cromwell Road, Southsea. Michael's musical career that has spanned more than three decades. In the 70s and 80s he established himself as a musically ground-breaking, electrifying singer/ songwriter/ harmonica player, leading many seminal Canadian bands. In 1998 Michael released his debut CD "Blues Money", which was nominated for a Juno and received the Jazz Report and Real Blues awards for Blues Album of the Year. Michael was also presented with the coveted Maple Blues Blues With A Feeling Award in recognition of his passion and commitment to the blues. His next album, "Conversation With The Blues" earned him another JUNO nomination and won the Canadian Indie Music Award for Blues Album of the Year. Whether putting his own spin on obscure tunes of legendary icons such as Robert Johnson, Sticks McGhee, Bukka White, Mississippi John Hurt, re-interpreting the music of Tom Waits, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, or showcasing his own extraordinary material, it's no small wonder that his audiences repeatedly respond with standing ovations and demands for an encore. His career has included extensive recording, film, radio, and television credits. He has shared the stage and opened for such legends as John Lee Hooker, Bo Diddley, Koko Taylor, John Hammond, Sunnyland Slim, James Cotton, Tom Rush, Lazy Lester, Jeff Healey, Big Mama Thornton The Kentucky Headhunters,Taj Mahal, Muddy Waters, Matt "Guitar" Murphy, Doug Kershaw, Son Seals,Hubert Sumlin Big Bill Morganfield and James Cotton at venues ranging from Massey Hall to New York's Village Gate. He is much demand for festivals all ove the world, and Tuesday's gig will be his second time at The R.M.A. Tavern. Free admission, as ever.
