Important medical advice (not a joke)

This doesn't apear to be a music related email, but a close friend and
musician suffered a stroke recently, and if thius can help just one of our
friends and acquanatances in the fture it wil,l have been worth it. Please give
this a quick read - it's not a joke..... thanks to Robin Bibi for sharing this.

RECOGNISING A STROKE
A true story:......Susie stumbled and fell. Her friend Sherry saw this
happen. Being very
concerned, she had the insight to ask Susie the three test questions below.

Susie failed all three test-questions, so Sherry called called 999. . Even
though Susie had normal blood pressure readings and did not appear to be
suffering a stroke (she could converse to some extent with the Paramedics) they
took her to the hospital right away. Susie suffered brain damage after a
massive stroke, but is recovering at an incredible pace .

So simple - this literally saved Susie's life - Someone had previously sent
this advice to Sherry, who followed it exactly.

Read and Learn the 3 steps!

A stroke occurs when oxygen fails to reach some part of the brain.
Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately the lack of
awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim WILL suffer brain damage if
people nearby fail to recognise the symptoms of a
stroke, and take action.

Doctors say a bystander can recognise a stroke by asking the victim to
perform three simple tasks which will enable you identify facial weakness / arm
weakness / and speech problems,

1. Ask the individual to SMILE.
2. Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.
3. Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE coherently (e.g. "It is sunny
out today").

If he or she has trouble with ANY of these tasks, call 999 immediatelyand
describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

Researchers in the U.S.A. are urging the general public to learn the three
questions. They presented theirconclusions at the American Stroke
Association's annual meeting last
February. Widespread use of these tests could result in prompt diagnosis
and treatment of the stroke and prevent brain damage.

It could save their lives.. A stroke changes the lives of all family and
friends around the victim, for years afterwards....A cardiologist says that if
everyone who gets this email sends it to another 10 people, so you can bet
that at least one life will be saved !
