AYNSLEY LISTER BAND- BULLFROG BLUES CLUB, THURSDAY 28th

Bullfrog Blues Club, South Parade Pier, Thurs 28 July: THE AYNSLEY LISTER
BAND

(NOT The Muffin Men, as previuosly advertised in some quarters!)
The Aynsley Lister Band make a welcome return to The Bullfrog Blues Club on
South Parade Pier on Thursday. There's no young English blues guitarist with
more vivid musical ideas than Aynsley Lister, who plays mostly electric but
is entirely electrifying, No stranger to the Bullfrog, (Aynsley recorded
his acclaimed solo live album there)
The Aynsley Lister Band were voted UK Rock Blues Band of the Year by readers
of "Blueprint" (the magazine of the British Blues Connection).
Aynsley picked up the guitar at 8 and played his first gig at 13. One year
later on a family trip to San Francisco, he was jamming at 'Lou’s Bar' on Pier
49. Brought up on his father’s record collection, he had learned to play by
ear and would sit for hours in his bedroom playing along to old 45s of
Freddie King, John Mayall and Eric Clapton.
By the time he was 18, he had worked his way through various bands and
decided to form his own. The band recorded two albums, the second of which
featured three of Aynsley’s self penned numbers. It was these that attracted the
attention of Ruf Records head honcho Thomas Ruf, and in the summer of 1998 they
signed a deal.
Together with top producer Jim Gaines (who has also produced Stevie Ray
Vaughan , Albert Collins and Santana), Aynsley went into the studio and
recorded his debut for the label including a duet with veteran bluesman Walter
Trout. Released in Europe, Lister received critical acclaim and toured extensively
over the next two years sharing stages with artists such as Buddy Guy,
Robert Cray and John Mayall and as diverse as Bryan Adams and Fun Lovin’
Criminals.
The latest incarnation of The Aynsley Lister Band are Aynsley, Sarah Jones
on drums and James Townsend on bass.
Joining Aynsley in February 2004, Sarah had only been drumming for a few
years but at just 17 years old, Aynsley's previous drummer Alex rated her at
such a high level that he recommended her to take over from him on his
departure from the band.
James, 27, has been playing bass for years, although only recently turning
professional. Progress has been fast though, including studio work with Robert
Miles (of UK number 1 'Children' fame), and live appearances supporting the
likes of Spear of Destiny, and ex-Babes in Toyland singer Kat Bjelland's new
band Katastrophy Wife.
THE AYNSLEY LISTER BAND appear at The Bullfrog Blues Club, South Parade
Pier, Southsea on Thurs 28 July. Doors open at 8.p.m.
