London based band The Goondocks are at the R.M.A Tavern in Cromwell Rd., Eastney tonight, and admission is free! The Goondocks wowed the crowds at Portsmouth's International Festival of the Sea,and they're sharing the bill with Jools Holland and The Bees at this month's famously laid-back Larmer Tree Festival on the Dorset-Wiltshire border. The Goondocks have been together for seven years playing the London circuit with gigs as far apart as remote Finnish islands and the Isle of Wight. Band leader Dave Marks said: "Think of us as a funkier version of Counting Crows - funky, rootsy with an acoustic flavour. We try to combine the British sense of quality song writing with the pizzaz and musicianship of America." Ulsterman Dave is joined by Isle of Wight duo Martin Newnham, on vocals and guitar, and Andy Parkin on keyboards and fiddle, and Finnish drummer Vesa Haapanen. They released their first CD early last year, appeared on Finnish MTV and have been regularly played on radio in Belfast, the Isle of Wight and London. All four band members also work on their own solo projects, some teaching at the prestigious The Guitar Institute in London.
