Bullfrog Blues Club, South Parade Pier, Thursday 14th July - a true legend- T.S. McPhee of The Groundhogs Tony "T.S." McPhee, the founder of the great British blues band The Groundhogs was a member of the same generation of young blues buffs The Rolling Stones, and like them recorded a highly significant body of blues-rock. He's playing a rare South Coast gig at The Bullfrog Blues Club on Thursday, accompanied by his partner Joanne Deacon. The Groundhogs are a very solid blues and R&B outfit, who started out playing soulful American R&B and raw American blues. .They soon became the backing band to Champion Jack Dupree and were chosen to back John Lee Hooker during two British tours - very fitting, as their name was taken from John Lee Hooker's song "Groundhog Blues". . In 1965 they were signed by Mike Vernon to his seminal Blue Horizon label, and later released a series of superb albums, including the classics "Split", "Thank Christ For The Bomb" and "Who Will Save The World? The Mighty Groundhogs!" This is a great opportunity to see one of the giants of British blues in Southsea. Doors open at The Albert Tavern at South Parade Pier at 8 p.m Thursday 14th July- advance tickets available (023)9286 3911
