St Patrick's Day is a pivotal date to Barking Spider - this year it marks five years since the first ever Barking Spider gig. On 17th March 2000, I promoted my own band AN SEISIUN for a St.. Patrick's day celebration on South Parade Pier. To celebrate, on March 17th 2005, Barking Spider will be presenting SINNERBOY at The Bullfrog Blues Club, a fitting St. Patrick's night tribute gig to the greatest ever Irish blues man. This is followed by Barking Spider's most ambitious gig yet, SHANE MACGOWAN AND THE POPES on Saturday September 19th. Barking Spider's first blues gig was in December 2000, when Aynsley Lister performed one of his first ever solo gigs at "The Frog On The Front", and shortly after regular blues events were held there. We adopted the name The Bullfrog Blues Club from the title of the Rory Gallagher song , as it it seemed appropriate at a venue called "The Frog On The Front". We kept The Bullfrog Blues Club name when in July 2001 we moved to our new home in The Albert Bar of South Parade Pier, where we still try to, present top blues performers every Thursday, and occssinally other gigs in other genres. Just for fun I've tried to list all artistes that we've presented on South Parade Pier (or during the early days a Frog On The Front) so far - if I've missed any out, please let me know!!!!! Special thanks to Barking Spider's unpaid yet hardworking staff, especially Pete (Lord Gnome, king of the raffle), Andy Broad (king of the blues and the website) Danny, Andy Lauchlan (Spunky The Spaniel), Pam Wilkins (big cat) and Carol, and everyone else who's turned up to help, past and present. Special thanks to our brilliant soundmen Andy Thomas, Chris & Jack, and all the support given by the staff at the Pier, especially the long suffering manager, Nick Lyne, Sara Jane for selling our tickets and Doreen, the queen of the kitchen. And not forgetting those who also serve - behind the bar - especially Justin (who's become a real muso now!) and Emily. We'll try out hardest to keep the high standard you now expect of Barking Spider, but if you're not there it won't be worth doing, so keep rockin' the Pier. I'm truly gratified by all the support and friendship shown by artistes, other promoters and our regulars over the last five years. Thanks a million, all of you. Sincerely, J.R.
