WHAT A START TO THE FESTIVAL!!!!! Tomorrow (Thursday) LIGHTNIN' WILLIE & THE
POORBOYS open the Southsea Folk & Roots Festival in style, at South Parasde
Pier.
If you saw Willie & the boys at The Bullfrog Blues Club last year you'll
know why we're so excited here at Spider Mansions....
Lightnin' Willie has just announced he'll be very soon begin working on a
new album. There will be eleven songs on the album to be called: "TRAINS DON'T
STOP HERE ANYMORE". Provisional plans include having Paula Nelson sing two
duets with Lightnin (she is the daughter of Willie Nelson) a partnership that
arose out of Lightnin and Paula doing some shows together recently.
Lightnin' Willie and The Poorboys band performed at Willie Nelson's 4th of
July Picnic in Fort Worth, Texas, both performing and backing up Paula
Nelson. Others at that gig include Bob Dylan, Ray Price, Billy Joe Shaver, Los
Lonely Boys, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and more.
In more news the movie "THE FINAL CUT" starring Robin Williams, Mira Sorvino
and Jim Caliveries features the Lightnin' Willie & the Poorboys track "BYE
BYE" from the "Buy American" album. This movie has just won the best
screenplay award at the Cannes film festival and best soundtrack at the Berlin film
festival.
Emerging from the clubs and bars of the U.S Blues scene, Lightnin' Willie is
an accomplished and hard-working guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. Now
based in Los Angeles, Willie is a seasoned musician and talented songwriter who
has paid his dues. With four albums under his belt, this eloquent storyteller
has his own story of time on the road, personal loss, fresh beginnings and
an over-riding love of playing the "Devil's Music."
Originally from Texas, this bluesman's years of steady gigging have given
him as much polish as his performance. He is tall, with an expressive face,
piercing eyes, and the kind of confident all-American swagger that allows you to
walk up to total strangers on the street and introduce yourself.
Lightnin' Willie and the Poorboys are by no means destitute. In fact the
musical vein they mine is rich indeed. They steer away from dry academia and
combine a seductive exchange of swinging Blues and R&B with a hint of
Rockabilly. A lively, interactive, face-to-face approach to their music has had
audiences waving their banner throughout the United States and Europe for over ten
years.
Willie is a brilliant musician who engineers an unforgettable journey. He
orchestrates a delicately balanced show, opening with powerful blues, rich
vocals, and slide guitar. The band offers an incredible serving of great
musicianship featuring "Spy" - Bass, the great Sam Kelly on drums, Giles King on
harmonica. Lightnin' Willie takes you home with a dazzling tour de force that
brings an audience to its feet. Lightnin' Willie and the Poorboys deliver a
tight, high-energy performance packed with style, wit, and an unabashed
sensitivity to a medium that will leave you feelin' anything but the blues Andy
