Dan Phelps - at The Bullfrog this Thursday, 28th April.

Dan Phelps is a native of Illinois who has been playing guitar professionally
for over 17 years. Phelps does one-man shows singing and playing traditional,
acoustic blues such as the Delta and slide styles of greats like Son House &
Charley Patton as well as ragtime styles like Rev. Gary Davis & Blind Blake.

Phelps has opened for and shared bills with Bob Brozman, Alvin Youngblood
Hart, Woody Mann, Mike Dowling, Pat Donohue, Lightnin’ Willie and the Poorboys
and C.J. Chenier, among many others. Dan's music has appeared regularly on
national U.S. television.

During his present U.K tour , Phelps appeared on Paul Jones BBC 2’s blues
show, invited back after a great performance on the show during his 2004 UK tour.

On the present tour Dan also headlined the prestigious London venue "The
Borderline Club". Barry Everitt, the "Borderline's head honcho, spoke to me on
the phone two days ago and coudn't praise Dan more highly: "a superb gig, and
what a nice guy! "

When Dan’s not travelling, he’s a regular performer at local clubs,
coffeehouses and restaurants, and teaches guitar to over 40 students.

In 2003, Phelps put out his first full-length CD, titled "Broke Down Engine."
The CD was produced by Matthew Fox, who has worked with such folk greats as
Peter Ostroushko, Kari Larson and Dakota Dave Hull. It was engineered by SM
Peterson at Lucid Sound in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Petersen has worked with a
range of performers from local rock bands to Doc Severenson and Ben Sidhran.

Dan's new CD "Matchbox Blues" has just been released, and features the
following 14 songs:

1. Kansas City. 2. What I Won't Do For Love. 3. Rising High Water Blues. 4.
Stones in My Passway. 5. Matchbox Blues. 6. She's Funny That Way. 7. It Won't
Be Long. 8. Green River Blues. 9. Pony Blues. 10. Good Mornin' Little
Schoolgirl. 11. East Coast Women. 12. I Was Afraid of That. 13. Done Left Here. 14.
Baby, You Better Change Your Mind.

Check out Dan's website http://www.danphelps.net/ where you can listen to
tracks from the album, and find out more about him.

Here's some independent reviews of Dan's appearances on his last U.K tour....

"From the moment he unassumingly took the stage with his shiny silver
National I was awestruck..... and I wouldn’t be surprised if someday you all are too.
Dan Phelps talks softly but has no trouble expressing himself with his
guitar. He took the stage and hit a groove so true and strong that the audience
could NOT sit still. He surprised me with a
powerful and expressive voice that served as a wonderful companion to his
playing. He painted with bold colors. He left no canvas."
(John Bauman, Acoustic Guitar Web Talk)

"A great gruff voice and percussive style."
(Roger Shrigley, Feenstra’s Music Box)

So.. don't miss it!!!!!!!

Dan Phelps appears at The Bullfrog Blues Club, South Parade Pier, Southsea
on Thursday, 28th April. Doors open at 8 p.m.
