Memphis soul legend ANN PEEBLES ("I Can't Stand The Rain","I'm Gonna Tear
Your Playhouse Down" etc...) is at South Parade Pier on MONDAY with THE DEBORAH
BONHAM BAND!!!!!
Ann is only performing three concerts in the U.K. this time around, and at
her first concert (last Friday at The Barbican in London ) Ann was reunited
with three of her mates from the Hi Records years - guitarist Mabon ‘Teenie’
Hodges, bassist Leroy ‘Flick’ Hodges and pianist Archie ‘Hubby’ Turner,
the legendary musicians from Willie Mitchell’s backing band The Hi Rhythm
Section, who were responsible for most of the Peebles' classic tracks during her
career on Hi Records.
The second London appearance will be at the legendary Borderline Club, with
her new musical soul sister and special guest The Deborah Bonham Band .
Deborah is the younger sister of the late John Bonham of Led Zeppelin, and her band
also includes Humble Pie founder member and drummer Jerry Shirley.
Ann's first appearance with Deborah Bonham and the band is at The Bullfrog
Blues Club on South Parade Pier, Southsea - a special warm up for the
Borderline gig.
At The Steve Marriott Memorial Concert at The Astoria in 2001 the stellar
lineup included included the original line up Humble Pie, Paul Weller, Noel
Gallagher, and Ian Maclagen & Kenny Jones from the original Small Faces)
However,, it was Deborah Bonham who stole the show with a stunning version of "I
Can't Stand The Rain". Ann Peebles saw the DVD of the show and was knocked out by
Deborah's version of her song. As the ultimate accolade, Ann and Deberoha
plan to record a brand new version of her classic hit "I Can’t Stand The
Rain", together with some very special guest musicians joining the session.
Of the Bullfrog gig, Ann says " I’m looking really forward to heating the
place up with my new soul sister Deborah and her band mates too, you know”.
Deborah Bonham is no stranger to The Bullfrog Blues Club - she's played there
on a
number of occasions to great acclaim, and when she played the Titchfield
"Blues At
The Abbey" festival (organised by Bullfrog Blues Club), she stole the show
and the
hearts of the 2,000 strong audience.
The Deborah Bonham Band have recently appeared as special guests on the Jools
Holland Rhythm and Blues Orchestra Stadium and Arena tour in 2004, where they
were very warmly received, and Deborah has just released a stunning new
album 'The Old Hyde', on the legendary Track Records label.
> This promises to be a night to remember - so DON'T MISS IT!!!!!!
