ERROL LINTON'S BLUES VIBE - BULLFROG BLUES CLUB, SOUTH PARADE PIER, SOUTHSEA
- THIS THURSDAY!!!!!!
Reggae and blues may seem unlikely bed fellows, but Errol Linton's Blues Vibe
have married the two as if they belong together, effortlessly into a match
made in heaven, the result is a highly original sound, strongly blues based but
with lilting reggae rhythms serving as colourful back drop to to a full
repertoire which doffs the cap at the likes of Papa Lightfoot, J.B. Lenoir and
Frankie Sims and the better known Willie Dixon, Howlin Wolf and Big Joe Liggins, as
well as showcasing Linton's songwriting which displays a immediate sense of
strong melody and clean drawn rhythmic strokes.
As a demon harmonica player, Errol immersed himself in Sonny Boy Williamson,
rapidly absorbing as many records & books about the old bluesman as he could
find, Errol took his music onto the street it was here making a living,
busking in classic fashion, he got his first break. BBC producer John Walters (
now sadly departed) heard him in the street and made a 30 minute film about
Linton and his music which was the final episode of Walters BBC series "Rhythms of
the World". As a result of the broadcast, Errol became involved with a
pioneering Hip Hop/Blues fusion project name RAW with whom he release a fascinating
CD for Jools Holland's label Beautiful Records. Errol formed the band from
busking friends and and musicians involved in RAW. The Blues Vibe had arrived and
they started to work.
Moving effortlessly from Chicago Shuffle to Kingston Skank without missing a
beat, they formed there unrivalled live reputation in the regular London blues
haunts. The stage was set for their first release, "Vibing It", which
received regular airplay and a session for BBC Radio 2 Paul Jones Blues Show,
airplay from Bob Harris, Johnny Walker, and a host of independent station Blues
shows, features in Folk Roots Magazine, all culminating in recognition of the
British Blues Connection as Harmonica Player of The Year, and set the scene for
the much heralded "Roots Stew" which followed "Vibing It"
Errol is established as a firm fixture on the Blues Festival and club
circuit. In the words of the late John Walters "Errol is as good a Harmonica player
as anyone can reasonably hope to become, he is the real deal"
