A final reminder - Doug Jay & The Blue Jays - Bullfrog Blues Club, South Parade Pier - Thurs. 7th April Doug Jay, one of the best harmonica players ever to come out of the U.S.A., appears at the Bullfrog Blues Club on South Parade Pier on Thursday, with his band, The Blue Jays. Born in Pensacola, Florida, Jay started playing harmonica as a teenager inspired by legendary blues harpist Little Walter Jacobs. In 1976 he joined The Allstars from Charlottesville, Virginia, sharing stages with Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Roomful of Blues, The Blasters, Delbert McClinton, George Thoroughgood, Powerhouse, The Nighthawks and many others.This period also gave Doug the opportunity to participate in jam sessions and gigs with Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Bobby Bland, Sunnyland Slim, John Hammond Jr., Bruce Springsteen, Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes and a host of other blues and rock giants. In 1978 The Allstars album, "Tip Your Waitress" was released label, receiving a rave review by Nick Tosches in Rolling Stone Magazine. In 1980 guitarist/singer Bob Margolin of The Muddy Waters Band formed his own band and invited Doug to join on harmonica and shared vocals. Doug gained invaluable experience working with one of the great interpreters of traditional-style Chicago blues, and around this time Doug began writing and performing his original songs. In 1990 Doug moved to San Francisco and started his own group, featuring guitar virtuoso Anthony Paule. In 1993 they recorded Doug's first solo outing, "Until We Meet Again", featuring many of Doug's original compositions, and received universally enthusiastic reviews in the international blues press. leading to extensive touring in Europe. In the late 90s, Doug released the album , "Get It While It's Hot", an ambitious blend of amplified blues, roots rock, 50s-style jump swing and 60s-style R& B, with many original compositions. West Coast guitar killer Alex Schultz, East Coast drum giant Big Joe Maher, Nashville keyboard wizard Kevin McKendree and 50s doo-wop kings The Legendary Orioles all appeared on the album. Jimmy´s BlueSonic were a band fronted by Blues Jays guitarist Christoph "Jimmy" Reiter, also featuring bassist Mirko Bartolcic and drummer Andre Werkmeister. Doug Jay took over front man duties, and the band became known as Doug Jay And The Blue Jays. Doug Jay & The Blue Jays have just release of their new album "Jackpot!" featuring are 14 tracks, mostly original compositions, The band are joined by some very special guests including Sax Gordon on tenor sax and Europe's blues piano master, Chris Rannenberg. Doug Jay And The Blue Jays appear at The Bullfrog Blues Club, South Parade Pier, on Thurs. 7th April. Doors open 8.p.m.
