Doug Jay & The Blue Jays - Bullfrog Blues Club, South Parade Pier - Thurs.
7th April

Doug Jay, one of the best harmonica players ever to come out of the U.S.A.,
appears at the Bullfrog Blues Club on South  Parade Pier on Thursday, with his
band, The Blue Jays.

Born  in Pensacola, Florida, Doug Jay  started playing harmonica as a
teenager inspired by  legendary blues harpist Little Walter Jacobs. In  1976 he
joined The Allstars from Charlottesville, Virginia, sharing stages with  Stevie
Ray Vaughan, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Roomful of Blues, The Blasters, Delbert
McClinton, George Thoroughgood, Powerhouse, The Nighthawks and many others.

This period  also gave Doug the opportunity to participate in  jam sessions
and gigs with Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Bobby Bland, Sunnyland Slim, John
Hammond Jr., Bruce Springsteen, Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes and a host of
other blues and rock giants.

In 1978 The Allstars album, "Tip Your Waitress" was released label, receiving
a rave review by Nick Tosches in Rolling Stone Magazine.

In 1980  guitarist/singer Bob Margolin of The Muddy Waters Band formed  his
own band and invited  Doug to join on harmonica and shared  vocals.  Doug
gained invaluable experience working with one of the great interpreters of
traditional-style Chicago blues, and around this time  Doug began writing and
performing his original songs.

In 1990 Doug  moved to San Francisco and started  his own group, featuring
guitar virtuoso Anthony Paule. In 1993 they recorded Doug's first solo outing,
"Until We Meet Again", featuring many  of Doug's original compositions, and
received universally enthusiastic reviews in the international blues press.
leading to extensive touring in Europe.

In the late 90s, Doug released the album , "Get It While It's Hot", an
ambitious blend of amplified blues, roots rock, 50s-style jump swing and 60s-style R&
B, with many original compositions. West Coast guitar killer Alex Schultz,
East Coast drum giant Big Joe Maher, Nashville keyboard wizard Kevin McKendree
and 50s doo-wop kings The Legendary Orioles all appeared on the album.

Jimmy´s BlueSonic were a band fronted by Blues Jays guitarist Christoph
"Jimmy" Reiter, also  featuring  bassist Mirko Bartolcic and drummer Andre
Werkmeister. Doug Jay took over front man duties, and the band became known as Doug
Jay And The Blue Jays.

Doug Jay & The Blue Jays have just  release of their new album "Jackpot!"
featuring are 14 tracks, mostly  original compositions, The band are  joined by
some very special guests including Sax Gordon on tenor sax and Europe's blues
piano master, Chris Rannenberg.

This promises to be a superb night! See you there!
