At the R.M.A. Tavern, Eastney, tonight (Tues 21.9.04) you can see HELEN WATSON in a free gig!!! Helen Watson is blessed with excellent phrasing and control, slipping effortlessly from breathy, seductive jazz to blues, soul, folk and R&B, keeping the genres alive and positively kicking for anyone willing to listen. Last year a broken cam belt en route from Manchester caused the cancellation of Helen's much heralded gig at The R.M.A. Tavern, but happily it' s been rescheduled to this Tuesday. Helen has six albums available; her first album "Blue Slipper" came out in 1987, and was recorded with such heavyweights as most of Little Feat, and Steve Luthakar. Not a bad line up for a debut album! Helen Watson started playing in the club circuit during the late sixties, first in a soul duo, before fronting the blues band Loose Lips, and the Manchester band Well Knit Frames. Also a backing singer for Carmel, her unique style has earned her much session work with artists such as Little Feat, Albert Lee, Andy Fairweather-Low, Emmy Lou Harris and Linda Rondstadt, as well as touring Europe with Joe Cocker. HELEN WATSON appears at The R.M.A. Tavern, Cromwell Rd., Eastney, tonight, Tuesday 21st. September. support is by AMALTHEA, featuring Debs Peake and Helen Andrews. Admission is FREE!!!!!
