J.T. Van Zandt- The R.M.A Cromwell Rd., Eastney, Tuesday 19th October One of the truly legendary figures of Americana, Townes Van Zandt died in 1997 at the relatively young age of 52, ending a country and folk music recording career that spanned almost three decades. As Steve Earle put it, "Townes Van Zandt is the best songwriter in the whole world, and I'll stand on Bob Dylan's coffee table in my cowboy boots and say that." Also revered by Bob Dylan, Steve Earle, Willie Nelson and many more, his untimely death left a deep void. A live album featuring Steve Earle performing with Townes and Guy Clark was released this week. However, Townes' son, John Townes Van Zandt, has picked up the torch left by father, and is on his first your of the U.K. Incredibly, he's appearing at The R.M.A. Tavern in Cromwell Road, Eastney next Tuesday - and entry is free! The comparisons with his father are made time and again, from the obvious physical resemblance to Townes to the sound of his voice and guitar. It's uncanny to see this tall, thin performer pick at his guitar and sing songs you've heard before from his father - as if a ghost has returned to the stage. Although he, too, is a songwriter, JT still finds it difficult to perform his own music. > . “I haven’t found the courage to do that”. J.T. draws on his > father’s music, which he said have Townes’ “heart and soul” in them. The R.M.A gig will be a rare opportunity to see this very special performer with personal > insight into one of the greatest singer songwriters ever. > This chance doesn't come along too often....get there early. > J.T. Van Zandt appears at The R.M.A Cromwell Rd., Eastney, TONIGHT - Tuesday 19th October.
