Featuring a flame haired, foxy fiddler named Stephanie Graffitti, it's very tasty stuff. This irrepressible London based outfit whip up an acoustic music storm and trailblaze through a varied landscape of roots music territories. They nearly blew the roof off South Parade Pier at this years Southsea Folk & Roots Festival, so they're sure to raises the rafters of the R.M.A. Bring yer dancing boots! MONDAY 18th: PETE QUIN:: Pete Quin has been a professional musician since 1970, but before that ran folk clubs from the age of 17, back in the mid sixties. Pete is a fine guitarist, and his transcriptions of early piano rags are definitive. But his greatest love has always been the songs, an eclectic mix from many decades, along with many self-penned numbers. Pete now lives in the Bristol area, but was a well known figure on the Portsmouth acoustic music scene for many years. One of his last gigs in Portsmouth was as support for Jackie Leven. Earlier this year Pete supported The Country Joe Band at The Bath Fringe Festival. Both Jackie & The Country Joe Band were very complimentary about Pete's sets - and so they should be! Come and see him on Monday! Tuesday 19th October: J.Townes Van Zandt One of the truly legendary figures of Americana, Townes Van Zandt, died in 1997 at the relatively young age of 52, ending a country and folk music recording career that spanned almost three decades. As Steve Earle put it, "Townes Van Zandt is the best songwriter in the whole world, and I'll stand on Bob Dylan's coffee table in my cowboy boots and say that." A live album featuring Steve Earle performing with Townes and Guy Clark was released posthumously. Apart from Steve Earle, Townes was revered by Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson and many more. Townes' son, John Townes Van Zandt, has picked up the torch left by father, and is on his first U.K. tour. Incredibly, we've got him at The R.M.A.! Apart from the obvious physical resemblance to Townes the sound of his voice and guitar. is uncannily similar > - as if a ghost has returned to the stage. > Although JT is a songwriter, in his own right (or should that be "write?") J.T. draws mostly on his father’s music, which he said have Townes’ “heart and soul” in them. The R.M.A gig will be a rare opportunity to see this very special performer, with a unique personal insight into one of the greatest singer songwriters ever. This kind of chance doesn't come along too often....get there early. THREE GREAT FREE GIGS AT THE R.M.A. - SEE YOU THERE!
