THE FRANCES BLACK BAND: Sunday 7th November, South Parade Pier, Southsea The excellence of her live shows coupled with the popularity of her albums has made Frances Black one of the leading artists in Ireland Frances began performing professionally with her marginally more famous sister Mary Black and their three brothers in 1986, as The Black Family, and in 1988 joined Arcady, whose debut album "After The Ball" reached number 6 on the Irish charts, whilst the title track (with Frances' vocals) reached number 7 on the singles charts. In 1992 two of Frances' songs were included on the biggest selling Irish album ever, the compilation of Irish women singers, "A Woman's Heart". The album sold over 350,000 copies, and continued to hold a place on the Irish chart s two years after its original release. Frances' solo album "Talk To Me" went to no. 1 on the Irish charts in 1994 , and remained in the top 15 albums throughout the Autumn. A single from the album, "All The Lies That You Told Me" reached no.3 in the lrish singles chart. Frances has won an Irish National Entertainments award in the Popular Music category, and in April of 1995 won an I.R.M.A. award for the best album by an Irish Female Artiste.
