GENE PARSONS - A BYRD FLIES ALONE If you're a Byrds fan, don't miss Gene Parsons, at South Parade Pier, Southsea on Tuesday!!!!! Last Time Gene Parsons was in this neck o' the woods, he was accopmapined by his (then) partner Meridian Green, but this time he'll be back playing a solo gig. The man that many of us grew up listening to when he was in The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers is still sporting his big moustache (it's now white, however!) , and he still looks like he just got off the Santa Fe stage from his home in Casper, California. A typical Gene Parsons gig is bound to feature some Byrds and Flying Burrito Brothers classics, but will also contain Gene's very special interpretations of songs by Little Feat, Jimmie Rodgers, Steve Earle, many of whom (well, those that are still alive...) acknowledge Gene's influence over their own art. Gene is a sublime bottleneck guitarist, an excellent picker, and a great banjo picker. Add to this a wonderful voice andsomes great anecdotes, and you've got all the makings of a superb evening in the company of a true American legend. Support is by Julian Dawson, an excellent performer in his own right, who has had artistes of the calibre of Richard Thompson and Dunae Eddy guesting on his albums!!!! . Gene Parsons is at South Parade Pier on Tuesday 23rd March. Doors open 8 p.m. Tickets from Wedgewood Rooms Box Office, (023) 9286 3911. Further details from J.R. on 07970 959793
