JOCKSTOCK The first Jockstock Festival will be held this weekend at Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Activities Centre, Manor Farm Country Park, Organised by Jackie Leven's fan club in conjunction with Barking Spider Promotions, as well as heavily featuring this excellent Scots singer/songwriter the weekend features a vast array of other top quality musicians for a bargain price, and all proceeds go to raise funds to provide opportunities for people with special needs. Jackie Leven is a formidable singer, guitarist, songwriter and storyteller, and his work, like many of the musical greats, falls into a category of its own. Jackie first made a serious impact upon the UK music scene in the late '70s with rock band Doll By Doll, a hard-hitting classic two guitars, bass and drums outfit that beguiled audiences when they weren't scaring the pants off them with a rare on-stage intensity. The band made five superb albums of warped melodic rock music. Jackie's solo albums have featured Mike Scott of The Waterboys and David Thomas of Pere Ubu, and he has a dedicated diehard fan base. On Friday night doors open at 7 p.m, when the Velvet Doonicans will open for Jackie, who with top Irish singer songwriter Andy White and the great English singer songwriter Michael Weston King, appear together as "An Englishman, An Irishman And A Scotsman". This will be followed by Sheffield based rock band Firegarden, and the music ends at midnight. Saturday daytime starts at 1030 a.m. when Jackie leven will be giving a talk, and the music will start at around midday with Portsmouth singer/guitarist Dan Ogus, English folk rockers Arlen, Celtic rockers Mary Jane, psychedlic blues band Magick Khat, and also Martin Howard, Clarity Haze and Lou Dalgleish. The daytime event ends at 6 p.m. There's a Saturday evening session from 7 p.m to midnight featuring a solo concert from Jackie Leven, and also music from G.o.r.g.e.o.u.s., Lee Griffiths and Dan Ogus. On Sunday morning at 10.30 there will be a opremiere premiere of Jackie Leven's DVD from the "Crossing Borders" festival in The Hagie 2003. Music is from 12 noon until 8 p.m., with music from The Frontliners, Magick Khat, Lance Riley, Firegarden, Harvest Moon, Arlen and Skunk Funk Tickets will be available at the Activities centre on the day.
