Three - yes, three - free gigs at The R.M.A. Tavern, Cromwell Road, coming up!!!! Friday 9.1.04, Sat 10.1.04, Tues. 13.1.04!!!!!!!!! Three days of FREE entry gigs are on offer at The R.M.A. Tavern in Cromwell Road, Eastney, starting this weekend, Friday 9th January! On Fri 9th January we've gotsurf blues guitarist Marcus Bancroft returning from his native Australia to play his first 2004 gig just for us! You may have seen Marcus supporting top U.S. blues demigod Kelly Joe Phelps at The Bullfrog Blues Club last year - even Kelly Joe was impressed! Marcus began gigging in in late 2001, touring Australia, and supporting the likes of Machine Gun Fellatio, Things of Stone And Wood, Ed Kuepper and Irish songwriter Andy White, (who has also appeared at South Parade Pier & The City Bar for The Barking Spider!). Marcus has released two great CD's, "Songs About Water". and "Seek" - both will be on sale at the gig. This will be Marcus' third appearance at The R.M.A. - we've adopted him! This man is more than a bit special, don't miss him!!!!!!!!! On Saturday (10th Jan) The Micky Kemp Band are appearing, after their recent success in the U.S.A., when Micky's fourth album, "Blue Fades To Black" was recorded in Austin, Texas. Micky's influences range from early country recordings to Pink Floyd's psychedelic rock and all these elements are present in the band's recordings and live performances. "I find it really hard to define what we do" says Micky, "With such diverse musical influences in the band it's sometimes a surprise even to me which way a song can turn. The band members all have differing musical influences. It adds a real excitement to the overall effect and our audiences always remark what a refreshing and unique sound we've got. It's almost like it shouldn't really work, but by some glorious accident it just fits, and that fit is everyone else's good fortune." And next week, on Tuesday (13th Jan) The R.M.A. Tavern will be presenting an evening of acoustic Irish & English folk music, with Gardener, a duo who have appeared at The Southsea Folk And Roots Festival to great acclaim. See you at The R.M.A.! (Mine's an H.S.B., if you're buying..) All these events at the R.M.A Tavern are FREE entry. J.R. (The Barking Spider)
