Don't miss LIGHTNIN' WILLIE & THE POORBOYS this Thursday, (12th August) at The Bullfrog Blues Club, South Parade Pier Southsea! With a sound has been described as "rumblin' freight train blues", Lightnin’ Willie & the Poorboys play hard blues at its very best, packing an incredible punch. Their wide range of styles and his repertoire range from hard driving stomping blues through rock and roll, rockabilly, and funky grooves all arranged with great intensity, and there's even traces of typical West Coast swing - when these guys slip into cruise mode, they play some of the coolest blues around. Guitar ace and singer "Lightnin’" Willie Hermes was born in Dallas, Texas, but is now based in Los Angeles. Schooled in the Texas style of guitar playing, Willie is a brilliant performer who has the rare ability to work an audience and generate a massive level of enjoyment. Lightnin’ Willie brilliantly works his electric guitar and also plays Dobro now and again. The vocal personality he radiates, provides proof that there is no doubt about his class as a band leader and frontman, playing Stevie Ray Vaughan to Eddie Cochran, whilst tipping his 10 gallon hit to the early masters like Jimmy Reed, Willie Dixon and Otis Rush. The Poorboys feature the magnificent harp playing of Giles King, whilst the "engine room" of the Poorboys features Silvio Gallaso on bass and Franck Rouleau on drums. Lightnin' Willie and the Poor Boys are by no means destitute. Pleasure and quality guaranteed! LIGHTNIN' WILLIE & THE POORBOYS appear this Thursday, at The Bullfrog Blues Club, South Parade Pier Southsea. Doors open 8.p.m. Tickets available on the door.
