THE MICKEY KEMP BAND- R.M.A. Tavern Cromwell Road, Eastney Sat 24.4.04 This Saturday The Mickey Kemp Band make their eagerly awaited return to the R.M.A. Mickey is a huge Bruce Springsteen fan, and the influence of "The Boss" shows. Last time they were here the band stunned everyone by their sheer energy, playing at non stop at full pelt from the end of the soundcheck to "kicking out time" without taking a break. ADRIAN BYRON BURNS - R.M.A. Tavern Cromwell Road, Eastney - Tues 27.4.04 On Tuesday, American bluesman Adrian Byron Burns, award winning "Acoustic Artist of The Year", appears at The R.M.A. The man dubbed "the black colussus" has thrilled audiences at Southsea's Bullfrog Blues Club as well as at most major blues festivals across Europe. Blessed with a voice that seems to span as many octaves as is humanly possible and a sublime guitar style, this in a gig not to be missed. MICHAEL PICKETT - R.M.A. Tavern Cromwell Road, Eastney Sat 1.5.04 Canadian bluesman Michael Pickett makes a rare visit to Southsea next Saturday. Pickett is is an electrifying singer, songwriter, guitarist and harmonica player, and has shared the stage with John Lee Hooker, Bo Diddley, Jeff Healey. He's also opened for Taj Mahal and Muddy Waters. With a musical career spanning more than three decades, Michael has won the coveted Maple Blues "Blues With A Feeling" Award and his album "Conversation With The Blues" won the Canadian Indie Music Award for Blues Album Of The Year. THE OX - R.M.A. Tavern Cromwell Road, Eastney, Sunday 2.5.04 Another award winning Canadian singer/songwiriter, this time in the "alt. country" vein, appears on Bank Holiday Sunday when Mark Browning, a.k.a. The Ox, returns. His music has has been described as in the vein of The Byrds, The Flying Burrito Brothers and Neil Young, and his third album 'Dust Bowl Revival', became the first independent album in over a decade to make it to number one in Canada. Mark Browning was nominated for Male Artist of the Year at the West Coast Music Awards in 2001. Mark's become a great favourite at the RMA, and the feeling's mutual, as every time he's on tour in the U.K. now Mark ensures that he appears at the pub. RON TRUEMAN-BORDER's PERECT STRANGERS: R.M.A. Tavern Cromwell Road, Eastney Tues 4.5 The "Brits are back" on Tuesday, however, when Perfect Strangers, Ron Trueman-Border's new band, appear, all the way from Essex! Ron has been described as the natural successor to Richard Thompson, and his well crafted and catchy songs take on a new dimension with his band, as was witnessed at The Winter Festival at South Parade Pier in February. Ron also performed a superb solo set at Fareham Folk Festival this Easter.
