THE MUFFIN MEN - South Parade Pier, Good Friday April 9th Easter Special! HE MUFFIN MEN are back in Southsea with a night of the music of FRANK ZAPPA on Good Friday! The Muffin Men's shows are not so much a tribute but more of a celebration of Frank Zappa's music, and feature the incredible vocalist Jimmy Carl Black, a founder member of The Soul Giants. Jimmy formed The Soul Giants with Roy Estrada and Ray Collins in 1964, and when their guitar player was drafted into the Army, they hired Frank Zappa, who promptly took over and rechristened them The Mothers Of Invention. Although The Mothers Of Invention disbanded in late 1969, Jimmy's connection with Frank Zappa didn't stop there. In 1971 he had a starring role in the film "200 Motels" with Frank Zappa, Ringo Starr and Keith Moon, and in 1975 Jimmy joined another Zappa related band, Captain Beefheart's Magic Band. The rest of the Muffin Men are guitarist, bassist and vocalist Roddie Gilliard, Carl Bowry (Zappa incarnate!!!!) on lead guitar, Andy Friz on flute, saxes and vocals, Martin Smith on trumpet and horn and Tilo Pirnbaum on drums. This band are truly awesome and a lot of fun, too - don't miss this one! THE MUFFIN MEN WITH JIMMY CARL BLACK appear at South Parade Pier on Good Friday April 9th. Doors open at 7.30.
