Last June the internationally famous traditional Irish band DERVISH were due
to play South Parade Pier, Southsea. This was to be a week after their
mindblowing gig headlining the Isle Of Wight "Roots In The Garden" Festival, after
which they returned to Ireland to fulfill a commitment there.
The bad news was an Aer Lingus strike prevented them getting back from
Ireland to England to play the Pier.
The good news is that they're eventually making it to the Pier on December
1st. this year!
DERVISH were formed in 1989 and soon became one of the most sought after
acts on the live music circuit. The release of two albums in the USA saw the
demand for the band take off on a worldwide scale. Their career has taken them
to every corner of the globe and has seen them share centre stage with such
names as James Brown, The Buena Vista Social Club, Oasis, Sting, REM, Beck and
many more.
On this visit, Dervish are only playing Leeds and Birmingham in addition to
the Southsea date.
